July 8-11, 2024 marked the first ever YXU High School Boys Basketball Camp. 37 players entering grade 9-13 attended camp with the similar intention - become the best player I can become. Camp was headlined with 10 coaches who currently play at the USports or professional level, along with 4 guest speakers who have played and coached athletes at the highest level our country offers.
The focus for the week was to become a player who impacts winning every time they step on the court. However, our athletes learned that impacting winning doesn't only involve scoring the ball on offence or covering their man on defence - it can come from spacing the floor to give your teammates space to play offensively, your positioning off the ball defensively, playing off two feet in the paint to limit turnovers, and more.
I can confidently say that after the 4 days spent in the gym together every player made strides forwards in terms of their understanding of the game and how they can have an impact every time they step on the floor. It was a pleasure to spend the week working with such a highly motivated and coachable group of athletes - I am looking forward to next summer and the opportunity to continue improving together!
